5.8.26 - report from the floor
Jack Moony and The Sundrops, Off Belay, Jack Riedy and the Dealbreakers
One of those nights at Cole’s that makes you keep coming back.
Jack Moony and the Sundrops
A four piece blues rock group bringing the grooves to the table. I don’t know what’s in those sundrops, but Jack Moony was shredding, with the tightest band behind him. Sweeping the bar with those bending notes that always sound best in the heart of Chicago. The best tunes to pair with the crispiest Old Style from the back of the fridge.
Off Belay
This was their first show, so I was thrilled to be witnessing history. Their lead singer is one of those local Tik Tok guys I feel like I see all around Chicago, so it only made sense to me to see him walk up to the microphone and hit some killer tunes. Their sound pulled from all over, including a fraction of math rock and a healthy serving of what they proudly call "gorpcore indie rock."
Check out their EP release show at Lemon on June 13.
Jack Riedy and the Dealbreakers
The double- Jack attack continued as our headliner took the stage. Dressed in a crisp white shirt and black tie (his trademark look, I learned) Jack Riedy looked ready for business.
The band slammed into the opening song and never let up. It was immediately clear that nothing was going to slow them down. Jack’s pop punk sensibilities shone through as he growled over power chords, delivering hooks that stuck long after each song ended. Behind him, The Dealbreakers completely locked in with the unenviable task of keeping pace with the force of nature that is Jack Riedy.
Catch them next at Reggie’s Rock Club on July 1.
You can also find Jack as a DJ around town at the following:
